I'm sure Waalx means less polies, cutting of the unneccesary ones. Beth pretty much failed to do that.

optimized mean lower count in polys

there's no need to have high poly models for the mounted head, so I reduced all the stock model by half, and you won't see a difference anyway as they are just mounted heads on the wall.

for the hunter I decided to work on some animals to add to the mod. as it turned out I have now created lions, lioness,
rainbow deer (buck and doe), and another kind of deer that look a bit like a yellow zebra so I baptized them Yebra.

Image

the lions needed a touch up on the body, as they are big cat whereas a mountain lion isn't. so I made them bigger! now there is a new bigger cat mesh, legs are stronger, chest is bigger and go lower, tail is straight. I'm working on understanding how to export an animal head with it's shapes still intact and I haven't yet succeeded. but when I do, you can expect a new 'big cat' head as well. Yeah there's a tiger in Oblivion but it's on a mountain lion frame.. now the tiger can look bigger too, same for the snow leopard.

Image

since the breed of lions I made aren't exactly like 'ordinary' Earth lions, I named them Great Lions.

they are not in existing leveled lists, they have their own list and spawn at new points, so I shouldn't conflict with anythin'. yay!

lion spawns are thus, (the male and female always spawn together in each place)

15 spawn points for the lions.

Great Lions (male)

lvl 1 - lvl 24 = 1
lvl 25 - lvl 49 = 1 - 2
lvl 50+ = 2-3

Great Lioness

lvl 1 - lvl 14 = 1-2
lvl 15 - lvl 30 = 2-3
lvl 30 - lvl 49 = 2-4
lvl 50+ = 3-5

-

for the rainbow deer

they spawn at 20 new points at any level in group of 2 - 5

and also at 2 other points in group of 5-10

arnd them Yebra..

same as Rainbow Deer but at different places.

A new big cat mesh? That's very cool. 8-) I've been looking around for something that looked a little more powerful than the little kitten body Bethesda made. ;)

Actually it's a very funny coincidence... Using Prometheus's lion mane mesh I added in a (cave) lion in my own personal game overhaul just a couple of days ago.

Image

Your lion's mane looks better though and I'll most likely switch to your stockier cat body once it's finished and released as well. Hope you sort out exporting the head mesh too. The original Bethesda mountain lion head looks a bit goofy. :-P

I always wanted/needed a lion creature for Gladiator. I wasn't aware of Prometeus one though.

No, I haven't succeeded in exporting meshes with shapes from Blender so far, and I tried a couple of things. the mesh seems to export with the shapes, but the exported files isn't the same as a regular mesh with shapes from vanilla. can't be used directly. so pasting the new mesh over and existing one seems to work in Nifscope but it make the CS crash if I parent my animation, and if I don't the head appear but will not animate (and the CS tell me about some error.) . I kind of don't know what to do with it actually.

Contact Mr. Siika at BSF. He's made around a dozen of "new" animals for Oblivion and a friendly modder :)

Good idea, Mormacil! :)

IIRC, Cryo_ from the BS forums had the same problem when he tried to modify the head for the Pahmar model in the Lore Creature Expansion. I don't know if he ever found out why that particular mesh didn't want to work or animate correctly when altered. Mr Siika might be able to come up with a solution.

Great news!

Can't wait to add those lions into my own game. :-D-)

By the way the likeness to a real lion head is remarkable! And it's much, much more impressive looking than Bethesda's original cat head.

I just took a good look at the vanilla head and the Waalx version. It's a difference of day and night! Impressive!

heh, by the time this is done... Oblivion will be a totally different game. Which is great, because vanilla
Oblivion is the dissapointment that I predicted it would be before it's release.
It's a pally thing, you wouldn't understand.

wait you are playing on a pirate copy of Oblivion?

I bought my game the day it came out actually. I was disappointed a bit by some of the features that were announced and that weren't in the game. yet I was enthralled by it for at least a month or more.

yeah sure it has it's flaws, but it's a great game nonetheless. Very few bugs in the initial release too. Gothic 3 in comparison was just like hell to try to play. lots of bugs. Yet I loved Gothic 3 as well, and with some patience going over the bugs I finished the game too. Gothic is static and it's very cool as you can see all the monsters at any levels, you die often because you try to enter areas that are out of your skills. AI in Gothic is organized as well so you will see a lot fewer NPC standing by doing nothing. a lot more have jobs and specific animations.

The new 'Big Cat Head' look more like a lion I agree. yet it's not exactly a real lion head the eyes are much too big still.. I might try and fix this...although I feel my work on this is closed.

I remade the uv of the mane so now it look better on top of the lion head.

I also made a package for my lions in the mod that make all lioness stay near the nearest male in the area. look great as it keep the lions together as in a pride.. and when the male go too far away they all start to follow (like sheep). :)

Yes I'm using a pirated copy. When the game was finally released me and my brother were pissed we had to wait more then a week before it was released here but we decided we'll wait. within 24 hours the torrent was loaded :P After a week playing I was disappointed and a bit angry and didn't buy a full copy. I got the KotN disc though :P

Hmm dutch people...

My first Oblivion disc was a copy from a friend,
I was totally in love with it,
then I bought the legal version on the airport.
Then I downloaded the small plugins from torrents.
Then bought KotN the day it came to Holland. (I already was there on the American release day, unfortunately, the shop hadn't got it yet, had to wait for the damn boat to arrive. Some two or three weeks. xD)
Then bought the Shivering Isles, and then came the GotY edition, which I bought to,
then I bought the GotY edition for my girlfriend.

I also played godmode for a time, my the first time I tried a new (bosmer) character and went out of the dungeon to "Kill" some of those bandits without godmode on... Luckily Bosmer are good in running, and for a reason.
Nah, after a while, godmode gets truly boring..

So I think I paid enough for having it illegal at first. Ah well, such a good game deserves it.
And it's only getting better with mods like Realswords and the body mods of course...

I have noticed that for a low level character the swords are overpowered slightly. (My girlfriend has killed half of the Cheydinhall guards with the Gull Broadsword.) Yet other swords and daggers might even be underpowered for a high level character.
My Breton Character rather enjoys the latest Breton swords and all of the bows are quite good.
Though some react strange on dark caves and such. I have seen this issue with some armors as well. They kind of glow white/silver. It's kind of weird. Though early Realswords blades don't have this.

Happy late birthday Waalx, it's late but not too late I hope.

Hoping to see a release from you soon, I have seen allot I want to try out.

Sorry for the lot of off-topics, sometimes I get that irresistible urge to comment big.

This would be my final on the Great Lions

Image

the top of the mane flow better now. I changed the place of the iris in the eyes, and I made the eyes glow. It may be a bit much glow. yet from afar the effect is really cool.

I'm working now on a darker breed, that I will call the Ash Lions. Smaller than the Great Lions, they are faster, but much weaker.

for the Great Lions:

I don't want all the lions attacking you, as they will kick your butt real fast. At level 1 if you encounter lions they are 3 minimum. But that is. Great lions are a noble breed, and they won't be bothered by you, unless you bother one of them. This is kind of a necessary thing since they move in big numbers. You can walk with them if you want and they will not fear you. don't attack one though, because then you will have the entire pride on you.

for the Ash lions:

things go differently as they are solitary. so you can always encounter only one of them, unless you find them in couple (male/female). So at maximum of two. These however will attack you, always.

The geography of the animals is this:

the Yebras and Great Lions are mainly found in the west part of the province, from Anvil to Chorrol. Yebras are the prey of the Great Lions.

I also started to populate the region beyond the border south of Skingrad with many spawnpoint of Yebras scattered along the land on top of the river and a little beyond.. I went there in the game and was hunting them a little, it does feel different to run in the wood hunting, knowing that nothing is hunting you. plan could be to add a wildlife to parts of the empty land. it's a big deal of work, but unlike a TC, it's just dropping level list all around and that's it. Just life in the empty woods.

make a few post here and there with map marker if you find them and you can go buy some arrows, sell you skin and sleep.

What I like in this is that it can be populated with animal that are small like the fox and you will see them as the grass in the empty land is much less dense.

Rainbow Deer and Ash Lions are on the Eastern part of the province, from Skingrad to Leyawin. Rainbow Deer are the prey of the Ash Lions.

comparative shot of the Great Lions, Ash Lions, and a vanilla mountain lion. Notice the head of the ash Lion is another new mesh! (with longer teeth and different facial shapes).
