I finally got around to installing DSFix 2.2 and it did make a small difference to the graphics as far as I could see but it's hard to compare in and out of game. Plus, I didn't fiddle too much with the ini to start with except to customize the HUD and something else I can't remember atm. Personally I thought the vanilla graphics were OK as that's not my major focus in games before actual gameplay and story.

However, I then discovered a SweetFX profile on the Dark Souls Nexus and it changed the way my game looks entirely. Stunning is the word that comes to mind. Just beautiful. Having said that, I'm currently in the Painted World of Ariamis and can't get out until I complete the area or attend to the boss (there's a choice whether to kill or not) so I'm looking forward to seeing the forest and other areas like Anor Londo.

Anyway, here are a few initial screenshots. They have black borders at top and bottom and I'm not sure what the reason is, but I'll look into that some other time, maybe.
My character in the Gold Hemmed Black Set which has high poison and fire resistance which I need in the Painted World. Upgraded Balder Side Sword and Crest Shield. I swap between different sets of weapons, armour and shields as necessary.

Undead Dragon...spews poisonous fumes. Easily killed with an upgraded bow. (might be a bit dark)

Kindling the flame. One of the rare times I'm human form instead of wrinkly undead.

Some humans would do anything to see if it was possible to do it. If you put a large switch in some cave somewhere, with a sign on it sayingEnd Of The World Switch PLEASE DO NOT TOUCHthe paint wouldn't even have time to dry. Terry Pratchett

I was invaded by someone in anor londo using exactly the same equipment your character is wearing yesterday. :0

Wasn't me...lol.

Ah, Anor Londo. Amazing level, but in my previous playthrough I rage quit over the dragon archers. This time though I discovered the joys of poison arrows and a +10 longbow, especially when using the Fog Ring which I got by trading the Skull Lantern with Snuggly. I have a light spell so didn't need it.

Being invaded there and dying is a pain if you're trying to get to the boss door with Solaire. "Praise the Sun" Image

Haha, i'm on new game plus and those archers... I hate them so much. :(
Took me an hour just to get to the bonfire with Solaire, luckily that's when the invader appeared. But they were no match for my golem axe. :D

Those screenshots with SweetFX look really good.
Yeah there will always be people who are so * begin sarcasm * brilliant * end sarcasm * that they do not see how stupid they actually are.

Thanks Fessels. :) They came out looking better than I expected really.

I finally got out of the Painted World and never did kill the Phalanx ;-(( what a pain...I just ended up running around them. Wheelie skeletons aren't a lot of fun either...lol

I haven't done any PvP except for when I'm human and I get invaded unintentionally, but I'd like to give it a try sometime. I'm at Andre the Smith atm and then I'm going to do some farming in Darkroot which is a good place for PvP I believe. I haven't joined a covenant yet, but I think Alvina will be seeing me soon.

Priscilla the Halfbreed is a boss in the Painted World. You can choose to kill her or leave her be after talking with her. I left her alone. For one she didn't immediately try to kill me and her story is quite sad. All she wants is for her world and it's inhabitants to be left alone, which is ironic since I had to decimate them all to get to her in the first place.

Just a common Hollow. Not to be underestimated though as they can still easily kill you.
Image

Attack of the trees....
Image

Part of Anor Londo which has amazing architecture. The city is based on Il Duomo in Italy.
Image

One of the Four Kings (one of the failed tries).....you don't want to know how many tries it took, but I finally did it! I think the worst part was the damn ghosts in the early ruins when they gang up on you....and the transient curse has just run out. lol
Image

Embraced Armour of Favour. I rather like how it looks and thanks to the death of Lautrec I can wear it. That'll teach him to kill my Firekeeper. It's too heavy though even with Havel's Ring as I like to be very light and mobile most of the time.

Thanks Fessels. :) Somehow I missed your post.

Here are a few more: Next time I'll try to remember to change armours for a bit of screenshot variety. :)
I finally got the great Scythe and have upgraded it to almost the maximum. Previously I was mainly using the Iato (a katana) which I really like, but this Scythe is amazing. Both the weapons have a "bleed" effect which as it says causes the enemy to bleed heavily and die faster... Plus the Scythe has a long reach.

A scenic view just outside the Undead Parish.

Inside the Undead Parish. Just showing one of the statues in the game.
Image

Mushroom family. The little ones won't attack unless you annoy them, but the big ones are aggro and pack a very, very heavy punch for a fungi. I couldn't get this one to come into the light without risking death since there was another one somewhere behind me.

LoL now your character really looks like one of the Nazghul.

The screenshots are really atmospheric, especially the second one.

Thankyou. :) Yes, the game is amazing for it's scenery as well as everything else.

I'm going round checking all the places I've been and making sure I find everything I possibly can before doing the final areas, which in themselves are very big. Tonight I went into a giant tree at the bottom of Blight Town...everyone's favourite place to hate...lol. I don't actually mind it, but it's very precarious with lot's of ledges and places to fall from. Some people have frame rate issues since it's a very closed in area, but I think that's mainly the console versions. It's fine for me.

The Great Ash Lake...very beautiful except for the Curse Frogs. Luckily I had a Curse Removal Stone on hand since I was cursed getting down the tree on narrow branches. When you are Cursed you have 1/2 health until you get cured or buy a Removal Stone. The only thing being cursed is good for is fighting the ghosts in New Londo Ruins since you can only damage them in that state, but it's not recommended. There is another safer method.
My current stats.
Image

One of the Arch Trees. The armour is the Crimson Set which is good for mages. I don't use it but thought a change would be nice for a screenshot. The sword is called The Washing Pole, a very large Katana.
Image

The second Hydra in the game. This one is harder and it comes into shore after you, whereas the 1st one stays out of reach until it attacks with it's heads. even so, this fight didn't take as long, probably because it came to me and was easier to hit.
Image

Hydra 2. Spitting water which knocks you down even with a 100% stability shield. That is if you don't roll away and dodge.
