Registrations Re-Opened

Hello everyone,

This post is to let people know that registrations have been opened again. I'm not going to go into a lot of detail except that I have had a couple of requests via another forum from people who would like to join and participate. We still have several people, including myself who are very active and more who visit on a semi-regular basis.

I have been in contact with Alex and it's fine with him. There may also be other changes to the forum in the future.

*IMPORTANT*

For the present new registrations will need to approved by Admin..that's either Alex or myself. It will most likely be same day, however please take into account time differences. This may change but for now that's how it is.

Approval will also help us catch the more obvious spammers before they can even get access to the forum.

Anyway, that's it for now. Leave any queries, comments or suggestions below.

Thanks. :)

EDIT:

Well after all that it seems one of the requesting people was already a member, which of course I didn't think to check on.

No matter -- new members are still welcome! :hello:

EDIT 2 - 23 OCT

OK. So this morning I have a pile of new registrations waiting in my Inbox to be activated and chasing up their emails to confirm if they are genuine is more of a hassle than waiting for them to post. In that light I have changed the process back to user activation as normal and will deal with spammers and the like forum side.

Besides that I don't want to miss someone's new registration and not have them activated by mistake.

Sorry about that! :-o Well I should get into the forum.

A was thinking of promoting the forum and mods if that's cool, maybe post some pic's and brief description (on Oblivion forum sites) with the idea of attracting new members. I could pm some contacts on the Nexus too

If any of these ideas are cool, what would be some general do's and don'ts of going about this?

Welcome. :)

You might be surprised how many people know about this site and WAC and have been here to download before WAC was made available at TES Alliance. In the last few years though there probably have been quite a number of players new to the game and may not know about it.

You're welcome to spread the word if you like but keep it relatively low key.. lol Some forums don't like having other forums or site's promoted on theirs so it would be better to promote the mod itself and link to this forum.

Promotion isn't something I'm good at I'm afraid, but you could do as you suggested and post a description of the mod with some screenies, then add a link to the forum.

I'd prefer you didn't go on a recruitment drive for members because although new "faces" would be nice, it's whether they would want to re-visit now and again that's important to us. If people come along out of curiosity, register, have a brief look and never return, that's a bit pointless and a waste of everyone's time IMHO.

We now have a Skyrim section and discussion topics on other games and subjects and in the future things may be added as time goes by, so it's not only devoted to Oblivion anymore.

Like I said promotion isn't my thing and Alex may have a different view of my suggestions, but as long as it's not pushy go ahead by all means.

I hope you will not come to regret that decision.

Yeah, well I can always switch it back to approval first if need be. :) Approval first means I get the registration requests in my email which I expected of course, but it takes twice as long to check the email is genuine and decide whether to approve it or not. I can pretty much tell which are spam accounts, but I don't want to refuse a genuine one because they might look suspicious.

Six of one and half a dozen of the other... lol

If this "one hit wonder" is dead and buried, assuming you're talking about WAC, why are you even here now. I didn't realize what happens here is dependent on your opinion when you rarely contribute here anyway. Low key or not this forum has it's small space on the Internet and every right to be there. Not your decision.
I'm quite sure the Oblivion crowd is still aware of Realswords existence even though it never reached final product in TES4. While gaining it some more notice is great, promoting it sounds a little excessive for something that has been around a while.
So you seem to know something I don't is that it? Or are you addressing "usernamesux" whom I did ask NOT to go on a recruitment drive for the very reasons you mention.

If it's me your comment is directed to I did ask Alex about re-opening the forum:
1. because I've had a couple of people ask if they can join and,
2. because things may be changing in the future requiring the forum to be open.

Besides access to the WAC the only real traffic that had happened here(that I can remember) was the weapon porting testing, granted I stopped playing Skyrim heavily since hurricane Sandy so I am outdated on recent occurrences.
The only "real" traffic here has been in the Skyrim section, albeit mostly mod talk rather than mod making, and that is also with Alex permission, after all he could have shut the forum down completely.

Don't presume to know what's happening behind the scenes, unless of course you know more than I do which I strongly doubt. Things change and evolve. It's not all about Oblivion anymore and that is why the forum has re-opened.
