Since everyone seems to be throwing ideas and sketches and things around in waalx's threads, I thought I'd make a thread here for all these sort of things to funnel into. Basically, if you have a drawing or sword concept you'd like to share, stick it in here.

Waalx, please dont take anything in this thread as a request :)
This is simply a thread for ideas and discussion with little or no relation to the RealSwords project :)

So yes, any drawings, models, concepts, whatever that you have, stick them in here :)

Just to kick things off, some blades I have actually done already :P

First of all, just a concept that I traced in Flash to make all shiny.

A mesh I made years ago, I think it looks kind of dwarven....

http://img515.imageshack.us/img515/352/swordeu4.jpg

And thirdly...well, I THINK it was meant to be some kind of skeleton based sword...

http://img250.imageshack.us/img250/7461 ... ordru7.jpg

This is all stuff I did years ago, actual concepts and doodles by me will be coming sometime. Anyone else feel like joining in? :)

I'm intending for it to just use the head, as I hate the clipping you get with headgear in the amulate slot, especially with any of the "Rens Hair" moddels

Changing which slot it uses doesn't really avoid clipping. One foolproof way to avoid clipping is to imput your characters face into modtool, model the mask of that then delete the face. That way you know there will be no clipping with your character. As for a biped slot, try tail, unless you play a beast race.

ah Sypron did I read Mod Tool? ;)

it's right that you should model over a head model, it will simplify thing.

but you will need to comformulate your mesh later on as well.. and if it's a closed helm, beasts will clip if you model only over a human head.

yet before you go into 3D, I suggest you take your time and refine your idea more.

cool concept. yet something is missing, it should have a little more of the physical aspect a helm that is made of metal have usually. Look at picture of real helmets.

Once again you're work is only as good as your references. And even if you do something out of your imagination, using references is always a must, because it show you how it really work, and don't depend only on the rater blurred picture we have in memory about most things.

Head slot means the back of the head is also removed ;)

1) Do not use the headslot

2) Include the head in the mesh, so it work as a helmet that looks like a head with a face. That will be only usable by one race because the skincolor won't match...

actually, it's supposed to be made of a dense crystal, and I'm only intending it for use on one character as she's a character in a story I'm writing.

I am only using my imagination as a reference, the story behind this character is she comes from a plane of all demonic creatures (think deadra if you need a reference, though she isn't based on Elder Scrolls) the problem is she is the offspring of a half demon. She has so much human blood she looks human and it's a constant embarrassment for her to not have the menacing appearance that even her two siblings have, so she wears the mask to make up for that.

Fantasy need inspiration and reference to look good. All I can say is redraw that image again an look around for images of demonheads.

I understand, but I stand by what I said and still say that your imagination is never enough. drawing an imaginary thing is fine, drawing an imaginary thing but basing it on real life observation is always better. Unless you have done the same kind of subject many times already in the past (and even then), everything new should have a research

even if you're not going to copy your reference exactly, the possibilities and details references can add is tremendous.

it's longer...but the result is better.

I still don't have any confidence in my ability to do this, also I have no 3D programs apparently...
