I don't get the advice either :?

so just a little update that explain what the previous things I've shown previously (props daggers & crap) were for. Cause I had a specific need for them. Now I must say I'm glad to have done the icon stuff cause it will be useful in lots of other instances, and I may review some of the mage belts too as the new pouches I made are far better than my previous ones, and I will change the daggers on dark mages and such too. That's why I created more of those based on the mage belt texture.

so enuff of my worthless writing, and on to the meat of this post

This is a first example of how I want the bandits to look like, that is, to look like bandits, so when you meet one you'll know on sight. Also to make them a little more fearsome and dirty ;) A few example of the possibilities. They will wear Fur, Steel, Iron, and Bronze, and nothing else. The complete armors (vanilla) you can still find in loot and treasures.

first in the pic is a Bandit Brute, a hand to hand fighter, or blunt axe. The two in the middle are typical bandit thugs, and the last in line with the strapped fur is the idea of a boss.
Image

If you chek the boss left shoulder you'll see part of the 'bandit brand' too (and a tattoo). And then you may realize the why of the armors in the middle, the two thugs have their left shoulders covered to conceal the mark. The brute is probably not wise enough..? and the boss doesn't care to show it ? You will most probably never know

He should have added quote marks: "Best" is the enemy of "better".

Meaning, (I believe) that if you hold off on releasing your work until it's the "best" instead of releasing a "better" version right now, then you risk losing a percentage of your potential player pool, because many players may be having a hard time maintaining a high excitement level and may feel you are almost stuck in a pattern of "wait and add more". I think he's saying you'd be better off to release something "better" than to wait indefinitely until it's perfect.

That was my interpretation anyway.... Doesn't mean I necessarily agree. In my case, anyway, I'm gonna wait no matter how long.

Looks pretty good. No more so-called bandits running around in super-rare phosphorescent armour. I take it they'll have new weapons to match?

I mean exactly that. In fact you might not loose many players/users of your TERRIFIC stuff (in case I was not clear about how big a fan of your work I am)...I know I am hanging in there...and will be until the final release...

But "Perfection" is not part of this world. I wouldn't like to see you loosing yourself in a quest for Perfection...

Already I am not a big fan of all bandits wearing horn like helmets. Eventhough I acknowledge that those look great and can be a nice addition to the Oblivion World I am not sure I want to see every single bandits in Conan like outfit...
But rest assure I'll take what you provide me with...

Yeah.. I know it's long.

actually I mean it when I call the upcoming release an Alpha release, it's because it's far from perfect.

about the horned helmets. Well... this is just two helms. I will make more with even more different horns types, and wings, and stuff. My feeling is that those armors need to look rugged and brutal, and different from the usual. I will use some vanilla items too in their arsenal, but few. Most will be modified. But in this case I could include the iron helm of vanilla as is. And make a duplicate of the closed iron helm but without horns.

only with that iron helm I will get

- base helm Open (vanilla)
- base helm Open (vanilla) + scarf (red or black) - that's an option that a level list can generate.
- Helm horn Open
- Helm horn Open + scarf (red or black) - that's an option that a level list can generate.
- Helm closed
- Helm closed Horn

x 2 ( because they come in golden tone too)

that's for the iron/bronze helms possibility only. in that you get 3 that have horns, and 3 that don't, + the chance that the leveled list doesn't generate a helm at all.

+ steel, leather, Fur, scarf only, and some.

in those four example up there only one is Conan like, the Brute or Barbarian. The rest are not.

but this is not it, it's just a basic idea. I have only two greaves here. in the end there should be more..

but better with another image... of what could happen with a generated party of bandits.
:)

and a pic to show the different scamp variety I made. Notice the one with gold rings all over at the left, it's the summoned scamp. A couple of other summoned creatures have metal braces or restraints..bears..and I plan to do more. It feel much more distinctive in a battle. Like for the black bear summon the bear have a big metal collar.

in short the new scamp specie are the Bull Scamp. More muscular than the scamp, they don't fight with magic. all scamp eyes glow in the dark.

You never cease to amaze Waalx. I honestly don't think I'm making an exaggeration, nor am I going out of my way to compliment you when I say that when/if you release this, I think it's going to be the best modification for Oblivion ever produced. Up to and including the official DLC content, and not ONE of the best, I really mean THE best.

Like I said, I'm not trying to blow smoke up your behind, I'm just stating the honest facts. What you've done so far with this increasingly complicated project is nothing short of mind blowing and I can't accurately tell you how excited I am about it.

That being said, some of the latest pictures you've posted are very interesting, to say the least, and I was wondering whether or not all those various bits of cool new armor can be worn by the PC? For instance, if I were to fight one of those rugged bandits you posted there, would he drop that armor, would it be in his inventory when I looted him? If so, are they all separate pieces, like boots, greaves, gauntlets, helm, etc...or is it more of a one piece costume, like the Dark Brotherhood outfit?

You'd think that at least a few bandits would have managed to scrimp together some armor for BOTH their thighs. Great work all around.

You think that at least you would read his post where he says he has only 2 sets of greaves done and more will follow...

yes the bandits armors will be playable in separate pieces, like in vanilla. It's a pain in the arse to do, but worth it, as you'll then be able to compose the bandit armor of your liking in what is available, but also more importantly for me is the fact that I can then create leveled list for those and have the bandits getting dressed-up instead of having a set of fixed costumes. That would grow a bit boring, but if you can't really know what will come up (all in a certain range of items of course), it's cooler.

The way I was thinking of it yesterday.. Bandits and pirates they all look filthy and with old stuff in every story, yet they constantly steal gold and valuables all the times. They should be decked in brand new plate armor, yet they all retain their scalawag clothes as they pile their treasures for better days (that may never come at all for them.. hehe). If they have a valuable armor, they will take it to their loot, and look for more. So it's a bit natural that they will always look filthy and mismatched. their gears won't be leveled. only their loot will.

The only things you will not be able to change on any of the cuirass are the belts pouches and daggers and magebelts that are made for each armor. As they are quite differents in placements (the belts height is rarely the same on any piece of clothe/armor) I can't make those playable or not. They are playable only.

Do you plan on reworking armor for other humanoid-based hostile NPCs? I know that your work in WW&WW will probably be for Conjurers and Necromancers, but perhaps Marauders as well?
